Where does the photo go when I open it here?

Nowhere. FileReader hands the bytes to a parser that walks the APP1 segment and each IFD with a DataView in this tab, and the report is built from what it finds. The one thing on the page that can leave is the OpenStreetMap link under a set of coordinates, and it only carries them at the moment you click it.

Does it decode IPTC and XMP as well?

Not their contents, those two are only flagged as present, alongside the ICC profile and the rest.

How precise are the GPS coordinates?

Six decimal places, plus the same position in degrees, minutes and seconds. The red banner treats that as building-level rather than city-level, which is why an indoor photo usually pins somebody’s home. Altitude, camera heading, GPS speed and the UTC clock come through too when the device wrote them.

Read the EXIF block in a JPEG, PNG, WebP or TIFF and see the camera serial number alongside GPS coordinates printed to six decimal places.

What this does

Camera make and model, lens model, and the body and lens serial numbers
Exposure readout covering shutter, aperture, ISO, focal length, metering, flash mode and white balance
GPS latitude and longitude in decimal and in degrees, plus altitude, heading, speed and the GPS clock when the phone recorded them
Taken, digitised, file-changed and the UTC offset the camera wrote alongside them
Orientation, colour space, resolution, EXIF version and the unique image ID
Chips for whatever else the container holds, XMP, IPTC, an ICC profile, a JFIF header, an MPF block
Saves the whole report as a text file, and pulls the embedded IFD1 thumbnail out as a JPG

FAQ

Most social networks and messaging apps re-encode whatever you upload, and the EXIF block does not survive that, so a picture pulled back out of Instagram or WhatsApp usually reads empty here. Screenshots never had one to begin with, and a PNG only carries EXIF if whatever exported it wrote an eXIf chunk, which plenty of editors skip. An empty report is not the same as an empty file, though, the chips at the bottom still list the XMP, IPTC, ICC and JFIF blocks that came through, and those can carry a name or an edit history.
