Built and run by one engineer, not a company
FernPDF is an independent project by Joshua Alan Fernandes, a mobile engineer who ships production iOS and Android apps for a living. There is no team, no company, and no server sitting between you and your files, just one person’s name on the work.
What I do day to day
I’m currently a Mobile Engineer & Team Lead at Wafer Electronics and The Grit City. That work is full-stack in the literal sense: I take a product from wireframes through a monitored production release, usually across the app, the backend, an admin dashboard, and, when the project needs it, the hardware side too (ESP32/Arduino firmware, sensor integration, the works).
Why FernPDF exists
Most of my work outside FernPDF sits close to the device: React Native apps, firmware, sensors, on-device processing. FernPDF is the same instinct applied to the browser. Modern browsers are powerful enough to parse, edit, and rebuild a PDF entirely on the visitor’s own machine, so there’s no architectural reason a tool like this needs a server in the middle of your documents at all. FernPDF is built to prove that, not just claim it, see the security page for exactly how.
