How to split a PDF or extract pages privately
There are three modes, and picking the right one depends on what you're trying to end up with. Extract pages lets you click individual pages in the thumbnail grid and produces one new PDF containing just those pages, in the order you clicked them, use this for pulling a single exhibit or signature page out of a longer document. Split by range takes cut points like "1-3, 4-8, 11" and produces one PDF per range, useful for breaking an annual report into chapters. Burst mode goes to the limit of that and produces one PDF per page, every page of the source becomes its own file. When a mode produces more than one output file, they're bundled into a single ZIP so you get one download instead of a dozen.
Splitting doesn't touch page content: FernPDF copies each page's underlying objects (fonts, images, vector paths) directly from the source into the new file rather than rendering and re-encoding anything, so there's no quality loss and no size penalty the way there can be with lossy compression. Rotation, internal links, and bookmarks that point inside the extracted range survive the operation; a bookmark pointing to a page you didn't include naturally has nothing left to link to.
Because splitting happens locally, it's safe for bank statements, medical records, and contracts. Extract one exhibit from a 200-page filing without the filing ever leaving your machine, no upload, no queue, and nothing kept on a server afterward. If the source PDF is password-protected, remove the password first, splitting (like every FernPDF tool) can't read pages it can't decrypt.
