How much smaller will they get?

That depends entirely on the source. A photo straight off a phone has a lot of room; a screenshot that is already a small PNG has almost none. The panel prints the before and after size for every file and a running total, so lower the quality and run it again if the saving is not worth what it cost.

Does it resize the image?

No. The canvas is created at the source image's exact pixel dimensions, so a 4,000 px photo comes back 4,000 px wide.

FAQ

No, output is WebP or JPEG. Re-encoding a PNG as a PNG rarely saves much anyway.

It depends which output you pick, and the difference is destructive. JPEG has no alpha channel at all, so a transparent PNG is painted onto a white background before it is encoded, every transparent pixel comes back white, permanently. WebP keeps the alpha channel, so transparency survives untouched. Nothing in the interface warns you about this, so if you are compressing logos, icons or anything with a cut-out edge, pick WebP and check one file before you run the whole batch.
