Remove PDF Password

No, and nothing running in a browser can. qpdf removes the encryption once you give it the correct password; it does not guess, brute-force or recover one. If you cannot open the file yourself, this tool cannot open it either, that is precisely what the encryption is for, and working around it is not something this site does.

Some PDFs never ask for a password to open and instead carry flags that discourage printing or copying. Lifting those needs no password from anyone, so there is nothing for you to supply and nothing here that is yours to remove. This tool only acts on files that genuinely ask you for a password, which is why it stops.

Check for a trailing space, autocorrect capitalising the first letter, or a keyboard layout swapping a special character. qpdf compares the exact bytes you type against the exact bytes the file was encrypted with, so a single invisible difference is enough to fail.

They go with the encryption. Those permission flags are stored inside the encrypted layer, so removing it removes them, and the copy you download is a normal unrestricted PDF. That only ever happens to a file you opened with its own password. A PDF carrying restrictions but no open password is refused outright, because nobody had to prove anything to open it in the first place.

On documents you are authorised to open, your own files, or ones whose password was given to you for that purpose. Removing protection from a document you are not entitled to open is prohibited by the Terms, and may be unlawful where you are. The tool enforces the first half of that by requiring the password; the rest is on you.
