How it works

Color Converter : HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV and WCAG Contrast

Pick a colour or paste any HEX, RGB, HSL or HSV value: every field updates together. You also get the WCAG contrast ratio against white and black, and a copyable tint and shade ramp.

What this does
  • HEX, RGB, HSL and HSV fields that all rewrite the moment one of them changes
  • HEX accepts 3, 6 or 8 digits, the alpha pair in an 8-digit value is discarded
  • Contrast against white and against black, badged for AA text, AA large, AAA text and AAA large
  • An 11-step ramp: five tints toward white, the base colour, five shades toward black
  • RGB, HSL and HSV inputs are read loosely, so any three numbers in the box will do
FAQ

HSL and HSV are shown rounded to whole numbers, while 8-bit RGB has 16.7 million discrete points, so most colours have no exact whole-number HSL. Editing the rounded value snaps the colour to the nearest representable RGB triple, which can move the HEX by one step per channel. Type into the HEX or RGB field when the value has to be exact.
